Most of you know by now that my family loves Kiwico. It is a monthly subscription STEAM box for kids. Kiwico calls their boxes “crates”.They have 7 different crates for all different ages and interests. My son gets the Tinker Crate and my daughter gets the Doodle Crate. This post covers an unboxing and building of the Kiwico Tinker Crate Walking Robot.
All the Tinker Crates come with the materials for the build, a blueprint style instructions and a booklet that teaches the Science behind the project called Tinkerzine.
For the walking robot project, the first step was to assemble the body with the motor inside of it. You fold the cardboard cut out around the motor and secure it with tape.
Slide the wood dowels through the top and bottom of the body which serve as connections for the legs and arms. Attach the battery pack to the back of the body. Connect the battery to the motor and test it before going any further.
Assemble the legs and arms and connect them to the body.
Attach the graphic of the face to the body. Turn it on and watch him go. My son was so excited, he made a YouTube video of him walking. Then the cat got involved which was hilarious. I will try to post a video later when I figure out how to do that. LOL.
